The Training Subclass 407 visa is a temporary visa granted for the purposes of undertaking occupational training to obtain registration, membership or licensing in Australia or overseas; to enhance occupational skills or for capacity building overseas.
This visa is not appropriate for people whose sole intention is to undertake work. It only allows to undertake occupational training with a sponsoring organisation.
The visa applicant must be sponsored by an approved Australian organisation.
An application for this visa can only be lodged online. The visa applicant can be in Australia or overseas at the time of lodgement of application. Family unit members can be included in the application.
The maximum period for this visa is 2 years. However, a visa can be granted for a lesser period depending on the length of the training.
To be eligible for the grant of a visa, a visa applicant is required to be the subject of an approved nomination. Your sponsoring organisation must lodge the nomination application. There are three types of Nomination which include:

The nomination type 3 includes the following subcategories:
– the nomination application in this category must satisfy that the nominee needs to complete 6 months of practical experience, research or observation to obtain a qualification from a foreign educational institution. The proposed training must be structured workplace-based training catered for the needs of the nominee.
– the nomination application in this category must satisfy that the structured workplace-based occupational training is supported by a government agency in Australia or the government in the home country of the nominee.
– The training in this category is intended to cater for Australian organisations that develop tailored professional development programs and market these to overseas employers who wish their managerial or professional employees to gain additional skills consistent with the business of the overseas employer.
The Australian organisation making the nomination application must be an approved Temporary Activities Sponsor (TAS). We can assist your sponsoring organisation in getting TAS approval.
