Distinguished Talent Visa (Subclass 124)
The Distinguished Talent (Subclass 124) visa is a permanent visa granted to people who have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in a profession, sport, the arts or academia and research or provided specialised assistance to the Australian Government in matters of security.
The visa applicant must be nominated by an Australian citizen, permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen or an Australian organisation with a national reputation in relation to your area of talent.
You can be in or outside Australia when you lodge your application. However, you must be outside Australia when the visa is granted.
Length Of The Visa
This is a permanent visa.
Categories
The “internationally recognised achievement” category – This category applies to persons with a record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in a profession, a sport, the arts, academia or research. Nomination is required for this category.
The “security assistance” category – This category applies to persons who have provided specialised security assistance to the Australian Government.
Visa Eligibility Criteria
You must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Be of benefit to the Australian community. Your contribution may be economic, social, cultural or to raise Australia’s academic, artistic or sports standing internationally.
- Have the ability to establish yourself in Australia.
- Be internationally recognised with a record of achievement in a profession, a sport, the arts or academia and research. Your achievements must be exceptional and outstanding which means you:
- are currently prominent in your field
- have superior abilities to others in your field
- are acclaimed as exceptional in any country where your field is practised
- have a record of sustained achievement that is unlikely to diminish in the future
- Be nominated.
- Be between 18 and 55 years of age unless exceptional circumstances apply.
- Have functional English or pay an extra charge.
- Meat health and character requirements.
Nomination
In order for a visa application to be valid, it must be accompanied by a completed nomination form by your nominator. Your nominator must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen or an Australian organisation with a national reputation in the same field as you. Where appropriate, the nomination should come from the peak Australian body.
The nomination should be comprehensive and reflect the nominator’s personal knowledge of your exceptional and outstanding achievements in the relevant area.
Additionally, the nominator should address your standing in your field, particularly your standing internationally. The nomination should also include the resume of the nominator’s own standing in that field.
Costs
The visa application fee for the main applicant is $4,110. There is an additional charge for each family member who applies for the visa with you. For applicants, 18 years of old or older who have less than functional English will pay the second instalment of $4,890.
